3. The Bootleg Process & Immediate Compliance

DMCA Safe Harbor Compliance: In accordance with DMCA requirements, we act immediately to remove infringing content upon receiving valid takedown notices, while preserving user allocation data.

When intellectual property concerns arise, Waifu Leaderboard implements a structured "Bootleg Process" to maintain competitive integrity while respecting IP rights:

Step 1

IP Complaint

Copyright holders or their representatives may file formal complaints about character listings that they believe infringe on their intellectual property.

Step 2

Immediate Sanitization & Under Review

Upon receiving a valid complaint, the platform acts immediately to remove infringing content. Because our platform utilizes unique database IDs rather than character names in URLs (e.g., waifuleaderboard.com/waifus/id-hdfu6489), we can instantly replace the infringing Name, Image, and Description with generic "Under Review" placeholders.

Data Preservation:

While the infringing visual and textual elements are removed immediately to comply with DMCA Safe Harbor requirements, the underlying Crown allocations, user comments, and ranking data tied to that unique ID are preserved. This ensures user support is not deleted during the transition.

Step 3

Bootleg Workshop

A 72-hour community workshop is opened where users can submit parody versions of the character. These submissions transform the original while maintaining competitive spirit.

Step 4

Admin Implementation

Platform administrators review submissions and implement the approved parody versions. The character is updated from "Under Review" to "Bootleg Edition."

Step 5

Continued Competition

The Bootleg Edition continues to compete normally using the preserved Crown data. The unique ID remains unchanged, ensuring no disruption to external links or other activities.
